A Choppies employee says one of the three men who entered the retailer carried a rifle and two pistols.

The fourth allegedly waited outside in the getaway car. The source alleges that police were called immediately the suspects entered the shop. The police reportedly arrived after the suspects had fled the scene.

Botswana Police Service Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Christopher Mbulawa would not reveal details of the robbery, save to say that the suspects are due to appear in court.

In a press statement, Mbulawa revealed that the four suspects who are aged between 22 and 28 years, were arrested between Mahalapye and Malotwane last Thursday.

“The men are suspected to have robbed a supermarket in Shoshong and later fled in a motor vehicle on Wednesday evening. It has since emerged that the suspects are out on bail for various armed robbery cases, including murder committed in Gaborone,” reads Mbulawa’s statement.
