Autlwetse the hero

He beat his usual nemesis, retired Brigadier Ramadeluka Seretse, who is also Minister of Justice, Defence and Security hands down in the recent primaries. Since 2003, Autlwetse’s hard-earned victories in the primaries were literally ‘stolen’ by the party, as if he was ‘unsuitable’ to represent the BDP.

In the past three BDP primaries, Autlwetse and Seretse have had three re-runs. Autlwetse showed his intent in the recent November 9 primaries when he won all the contested wards with 3,324 votes to Seretse’s 2,015 votes before the party ordered a re-run.

He came into the December 7 re-run with guns blazing and widened the margin by polling 4 084 votes to Seretse’s 1 478. With a commoner shooting down his blue-blood rival, this is a rare feat that deservedly elevates Autlwetse to the status of a hero.
