Local, international acts clash at Morobosi

The show that came to a close without any controversy started off with a bit of drama on New Year’s Eve. South Africa’s Heavy K nearly ruined the night when he demanded to play before his scheduled time slot.  His order caused a commotion as DJ Chrispin was still playing at the time.  Chrispin refused to vacate the stage. “Just because he is from South Africa does not give him the right to boss us around,” Chrispin said. The young drummer did not disappoint as he turned up the gear on his digitally sophisticated drums.  The song that had many dancing was his latest single Fire In The Mountain that is currently topping local music charts. Chrispin relinquished the stage to the SA DJ shortly after midnight.  Finally Heavy K took over but his best was not nearly as entertaining to the crowd as Chrispin’s act.

Many were still disappointed following his earlier behaviour towards Chrispin.

One of the local promoters told Showbiz that this is not the first time this kind of drama has happened.

In gigs where an international performer is billed, promoters find that the headliner will want to be given first priority.

“Normally international acts will want to perform at the time that they want and not the one that the organisers allocated them.  They always give reasons that are really not concrete enough to change the line up.  When we do change the line up, local artists always get mad as they feel they are not respected,” said the Morobosi promoter.

Many revellers agreed that they definitely enjoyed Chrispin’s set more.  Some even mentioned that it was Chrispin who set the tone for the night leading them into the New Year.  The main acts of the show were international artists who included SA’s Heavy K, Problem Child, Afro Step, DJ T’do and DJ Divalash.  Also present was United Kingdom’s Aluke Rebels.  Local artists featured were DJs Kaylo, Oak, Teaz, King, Fondo Fire, Sly, Chrispin among other artists.

The event started on December 31, 2013 at 6:00 pm with a string of performances from local DJs.  They warmed up the crowd with a blend of house music, hip pop and kwaito.
