ECCO looking at Ghanaian striker

With Gaborone United (GU) courting exciting ECCO midfielder, Tendai Nyumasi, the Francistown side does not want to be caught napping.
The striker under assessment is 18-year-old Accra-born Ishmael Amponsah who played for Liberty FC Under-20 side and was about to be introduced into the senior team.
Dick said the technical team was looking at Amposah and head coach Atshele Molapi would advice the executive committee accordingly if impressed by the player.
“We are assessing him in case we lose one of our foreign players. This is a transfer window period and anything can happen,” said Dick.
“So we do not want to be caught off guard,” said Dick.
Although he could not confirm the speculation that GU was chasing their talented midfielder, Dick admitted that the grapevine had it that the Gaborone giants were after Nyumasi.
When contacted for comment, GU secretary general Hebert Letsebe claimed ignorance about their desire to acquire the services of Nyumasi.
However, information reaching Mmegi Sport is that GU have agreed terms with both ECCO and the player. According to sources, GU have agreed to buy Nyumasi out of his contract with ECCO, which runs until August 2015, for an undisclosed fee.
“GU are desperate for the player (Nyumasi). The likelihood is that GU will lose Jackie (Mothathego) to (Bloemfontein) Celtic. They need a player of Nyumasi’s calibre to fill the void likely to be created by Jackie’s departure,” said a GU insider.
Mothathego left the country at the beginning of the year for South Africa where he is undergoing trial at Celtic.
On the other hand, the ECCO executive has been having a serious headache. With a full foreign quota, they did not know whom to off-load in order to bring in a striker to deal with the goal drought at the club.
“It is a blessing in disguise that GU have shown interest in Nyumasi. The executive was at wit’s end not knowing who to release in order to create space for the Ghanaian striker,” said sources in the ECCO camp.
