BISA unveils P300 000 sponsorship

Although BISA north region senior officials declined to reveal the amount of sponsorship, Mmegi Sports can reveal that it will be worth P300, 000 for a duration of three years.

'The sponsorship will cover all zonal games under all competing codes for the BISA North region including the zonal finals.

'It will not cover us when we compete at the BISA national finals,' the BISA north region chairperson Modiri Mokobela told Mmegi Sports yesterday.

In zonal competitions BISA north region has students participating in athletics and ball sports at different dates during its calendar. Winners proceed to the national finals.

The BISA north region covers 68 junior and senior secondary schools in the North, North East and West region, Chobe, Boteti area and other parts of the Central District.

The schools involve those that are privately owned.

For the past few years the region has been operating without a stable sponsor.

'Last year Valentine Sports and Gift sponsored us for the athletics event.

'Operating without a firm sponsor has been a challenge because at times we could not afford to buy trophies and medals to serve as a motivating factor to the students.

'It can be demoralising for students if they are not awarded for doing well,' he said.

Apart from buying trophies and medals to reward excelling students during the BISA competitions, he said that they would use part of the sponsorship money to source merchandise, which will be sold at a profit to raise funds for the regional association.

'Schools usually provide equipment for the competitions so we are not going to spend much money on that,' he said.
