he 2013/14 beMOBILE Premier League race is - at its current stage - still wide open for the frontrunners but at the bottom a bitter fight to avoid relegation is building up.
In the previous seasons, it was always obvious that one or all the newcomers were the ones going out but this time around the rookies - Wonder Sporting and FC Satmos - have stamped their authority, sending out a signal that they are in the top league to stay.
Another promoted side, Orapa United might also escape relegation, depending on how they fare in their remaining games.
United are currently 11th with 20 points. They will need about 15 points to survive their first season in the Premier League.
The fact that newly promoted sides are doing well has put pressure on some of the veterans such as Notwane, TAFIC, Flamengo Santos and Extension Gunners.
In fact, it is becoming clear that some of the established sides might drop at the end of the league campaign.
Although they can be described as the proverbial cat with nine lives when it comes to dodging the relegation axe, Gunners find themselves in a precarious position than ever before.
Out of 18 outings, Gunners have only won three games and there has not been any improvement in their fortunes.
The team has already lost 11 games, at times conceding even four consecutive defeats.
To compound matters, Gunners have also been losing games to lowly placed teams. Many a Gunners faithful had thought that the situation would stabilise after the appointment of coach Mike Sithole but things are getting worse.
Gunners are currently languishing at the bottom of the league table with 13 points. Will the man nicknamed 'Dubula Dubula' rescue the situation for the Lobatse club? Time will tell.
Another team that is haunted by relegation is TAFIC. Just like Gunners, the club has been hit by lack of sponsorship. As a result, the Francistown side is not able to keep quality players.
Flamengo Santos could also find themselves in trouble. The club is occupying the 14th position with 16 points.
As for Notwane, they found themselves in a dire position after roping in controversial investor, Gift Mogapi, at the beginning of the season. But since an interim committee took over, the situation has improved tremendously.
Both Miscellaneous and United's fate will be decided by how the other teams below them perform.
