The First Division North League resumes tomorrow, while action in the South starts agains on February 1. First Division North secretary, Maraole Sikwane said they expect the players to wear branded kits when the league resumes.
He confirmed to Mmegi Sport that the kits arrived this week. Clubs have been anxious about the arrival of kits since Debswana was announced as the First Division sponsor last year.
The kits will be distributed to the teams next week. Last year, the First Division League received P6 million sponsorship from Debswana Mining Company over a period of three years. Sikwane said clubs will receive grants of P17,500 grants every three months. He said that the last grants for the current season are expected to be paid into clubs’ bank accounts by today.
First Division South secretary, Sydney Magagane said the arrival of the playing kit would bring relief to the clubs. He said supplying the kits is the second phase of the sponsorship after the grants.
He said clubs have waited for the kits for a long time and some were starting to be skeptical. He said the second round is expected to be more competitive as teams will be pushing to get a chance to play in the Premier League next season.
Magagane said they expect the Botswana Football Association (BFA) to launch the Debswana sponsorship in the South as soon as the games start. He said the association has not come up with a date for the launch though it is expected to take place when Letlapeng plays Killer Giants.
