Darkboy Masey takes his music across borders

But the house producer and disc jokey (DJ) says his road to fame has not been an easy one because he had to negotiate many obstacles and setbacks along the way. But he succeeded in the end and says he owes his success to God.

His single, Change My Lingo, which was released last year, seems to be the most popular song here in his home country and abroad, including and especially South Africa where he has name recognition.

'I have been getting lots of bookings in SA and other countries like Swaziland,' he told Showbiz this week.

'I think promoters in other countries have noticed the good work I am doing and all this motivates me to be the best I can be.'

He is known as Darkboy Masey in the entertainment industry, a name he says has been with him since his teens.

The DJ/producer further is happy that although he is currently working on his first album that will be released this year, people are already taking notice of him.

'I am taking my time to make a masterpiece,' says Darkboy.

'My album is going to be all about spreading the message because I believe we young people have a role to play. My role basically is to communicate to the youth in a language that they understand, and that’s about the latest trends and party music that people dance to when having fun.'

He encourages having fun, but emphasises that it should be in a responsible way where alcohol and drugs are out of bounds.

'Some songs teach the youth of the dangers of not taking education seriously and about the value of having respect for parents,' he says.

'I believe God grants us success only if we respect our parents.'

His manager Mpho Dinoko couldn’t be happier for him and points out that the success is the result of hard work and perseverance.

Dinoko adds that the lad is famous for his unique deejaying skills and producing hits that were performed in South Africa during the festive season.

'The love he got when he was playing alongside Thebe from Kalawa was amazing,” he says. “Thebe was launching his Bula Ntho single at Club Cuba in Welkom.

He simply blew the crowd away.

By the end of the night, many wanted him at their clubs.'

A Pretoria event where he also played was no different from Welkom, Dinoko says. 'Whereever he goes, people just fall in love with his skills and cannot get enough of him. Even on radio stations, his interviews always leave listeners asking for more'.

Ntshontsi has a mixing slot on Botho’s show on RB2 (mid-day radio) where he says he perfects his craft.
