irst Division South clubs have pointed an accusing finger at the Botswana Football Association (BFA) for delays in the supply of playing kits.
Some teams in the First Division South told Mmegi Sport yesterday that the sponsor, Debswana Mining Company has been doing things accordingly. This includes grants to teams and the payment of match officials.
It has emerged that Debswana has been fully behind the sponsorship and that the only thing that has been delaying the supply of kits to teams is the mother body. Teams said Debswana is not buying kits, but BFA was the one given the task. Mmegi Sport is informed that Jwaneng Comets, Rolling Boys, Letlapeng FC and Mogoditshane Fighters did not reject the sponsor's kit. Rather the teams were given an option to bring their own kits branded with their technical sponsor. Such clubs will be given funds instead.
BFA chief executive officer, Keith Masters told Mmegi Sport that the kits have been taken for branding. He explained that the kits were ordered from the United Kingdom because it was cheaper than local companies. He said the other delay was due to the time taken to get teams' colours and logos. Masters promised that the kits will soon be distributed to the teams.
Meanwhile, the First Division South League kicks off this weekend with Letlapeng expected to continue where they left off at the end of the first round.
The Ramotswa side finished the first round top with 22 points and Black Forest is breathing on their neck with 20 points, followed by Killer Giants with 18 points.
Letlapeng coach, Thaloba Nthaga told Mmegi Sport that the intention is to continue where they left off. He said that they have signed two midfielders and a left back. Letlapeng will play Gantsi Terrors tomorrow. Terrors are in position eight with 11 points.
Second placed Black Forest will entertain Modipane United in Modipane on Sunday. Forest chairperson, Mompati Ditiro said his side is ready for the second round.
