BDF XI have appealed to the Botswana Football Association (BFA) for a lesser sentence following the docking of six points and a fine of P10, 000 after the club took the organisation to court, contravening FIFA rules. BDF XI chairperson Boikanyo Addens said they had appealed the sentence on Monday.
'We have launched an appeal. We feel the punishment is too harsh,' Addens said.
The appeal will be heard on February 6. BFA chief executive officer, Keith Masters confirmed the army side had lodged an appeal.
The Botswana Premier League (BPL) Disciplinary Committee (DC) found BDF XI guilty of contravening FIFA Statutes by taking a football matter to court. This was after the team challenged a decision to postpone their league match in favour of a friendly game involving Mochudi Centre Chiefs and Kaizer Chiefs. BDF XI won in court, but the BPL vowed to deal with a club it labelled 'militant'.
The decision to dock six points meant BDF XI surrendered their top spot and fell to third behind new leaders Township Rollers and Mochudi Centre Chiefs.
