otswana Democratic Party (BDP) Kweneng regional committee has finally decided on 30 appeals that were before them. Of these, re-runs were called for six wards only and one parliamentarian seat.
The regional committee decided that Gabane/Mmankgodi parliamentary results should be nullified and a re-run called. The constituency was won by underdog Lesedi Mmusi, beating Colonel Duke Masilo, Mmoloki Raletobane and Tshepo Wareus.
The committee, however, dismissed appeals for Molepolole North, where Kabo Sebele lost to MP Gaotlhaetse Matlhabaphiri and Lentsweletau/Mmopane in which MP Moeng Pheto had a narrow loss to special elected MP Vincent Seretse.
The committee yesterday informed the appellants to collect letters communicating the decisions. In the letters, dated January 27, the regional committee advised the appellants that they have only seven days to appeal their decisions to the BDP central committee.
A re-run was called for the following wards;  Gamodubu at Molepolole South constituency, Kotolame/Leselakgobong at Kumakwane/Thamaga constituency, Motokwe at Takatokwane constituency, Moswelakoko-St Paul at Molepolole North constituency, Kumakwane and Mmankgodi North at Gabane/Mmankgodi constituency.
Kweneng regional chairperson Motlhophi Leo confirmed that they have ordered a re-run for six wards and one parliamentary seat.
He said the Molepolole South constituency appeal went before the central committee, not the regional one, and that the appeal was dismissed for lack of evidence.
'Some of the evidence was not good enough to call for a re-run. While in some instance we felt that appellants submissions were not enough to overturn the results of the elections,' he said.
Leo said they hope that those who are appealing their decisions will notify them within seven days.
