he coordinator of the Inter-Club Boxing tournament held at the Sir Seretse Khama Barracks on Saturday has said the event was a success considering that boxers were just returning from a long lay-off caused by the December holidays.
Mathata Thingwane said the turnout was very good and the standards were high showing that the boxers were not rusty. 'We didn't expect this turn out because it was just after the festive season,' he said.
The tournament was hosted by the eventual champions, UB Tsholofelo Club. The competition ended on a high note with a thrilling bout between Francistown pugilist Rocky Bathobasele and Wame Mmoloki in the 69kg. Bathobasele emerged the winner after he beat his younger opponent who put up a gallant fight.
In the first 69kg fight, Motlatsi Mokobeng of EMG demolished Douglas Johannes of UB opening the way for Monthusi Moitoi of UB to outclass Mogomotsi Sesupo of BMC. In the third 69kg bout, Pako Sakhu of SSKB had no difficulty in getting rid of Tshepiso Dikerwai of DTCB. In the women 49kg category, Rhoda Maswabi was no match for Koketso Dipogiso as Orapeleng Ketshametse made mince meat of Lesogo Elisa.
Keamogetse Kenosi of the Francistown Boxing Club outclassed Lebogang Daniel in the category with Keneilwe Rakhudu easily overcoming her opponent Katlego Olatotse. The only closely contested fight in the women category was between Bonolo Motseothata and Tebo Gaotingwe.  Although Gaotingwe emerged the winner, it was a close contest.
In the men's category, there were interesting bouts in the 60kg category. In the first fight in the division, Kefentse Molalapata of Tsholofelo defeated Aone Katlhokafala of KNBC.
The pick of the division was the punch-up between Keone Maoka Mageu champion, Kagiso Bagwasi and Tirafalo Seoko. The anticipated fight between the two internationals lived up to its billing with Bagwasi emerging tops. The boxer started showing his killer instincts in the second round, forcing a desperate Seoko to resort to holding on numerous occasions.  Seoko was clearly exhausted and the final bell came as a relief to him.  It did not come as a surprise when Bagwasi was declared the winner.  In the male 49kg category, Otukile Mohammed of BMC knocked out Tendai Phillip while another BMC fighter, George Mwantwa defeated Petrus Motshegwa. In the 52kg, Kutlwano Ogaketse of DTCB beat Junior Moeti of Prisons as Dimpho Ramokoya out-punched Letsibogo Basenyapelo of BMC.
Francistown boxer Mmoloki Matito walked away with the champion's belt in the last 52kg fight against Kabelo Molefe of UB.  In the opening 56kg fight, Mothibadira of EMG took care of Ofentse Sentle of BMC while Tinashe Moroka of EMG was knocked out by Moemedi Macheng. The hapless Moroka failed to beat the count by the referee.
Thabisong Mpolokeng of 125 was no match for Tirelo Khunou of KNBC in another 56kg bout while Kabelo Bagwasi defeated Onrakarbile Mothibedi of SSKB in an exciting duel.
