Vilakazi weighs options

Vilakazi said he was shocked to be served with a letter last Thursday ending his contract, which was supposed to run until June.

But he is not holding a grudge against.

On Tuesday, Vilakazi said he was still holding discussions with the team regarding his exit.  He said he was also waiting for his clearance from the team. There were also issues of his exist package. He said once everything had been cleared, he was intending to leave for South Africa this week.  Vilakazi said he was intending on embarking on school development programmes in South Africa.

As far as he is concerned Vilakazi, who is in his early 30s, said he could still play. If any local team was to approach him, he could consider their offer.  The player, who is known as ‘Little Napoleon,’ said that one reason why he was fired was because he was not always in the starting line-up.  However, he pointed out that it was the coach’s decision to determine how long he could play. Vilakazi disputed claims by management that he did not deliver. But the midfield dynamo does not hold any grudges against BMC, noting that the club treated him well.  He said everyone welcomed him when he joined the team in November. He also had a good relationship with coach, Chicco Nare.

The head of communications of the Botswana Footballers Union, Kgosana Masaseng, said they were representing Vilakazi in his dispute  over the dismissal and would lodge a case against the club.  Masaseng said they found it very unfair that a team could unilaterally terminate a player’s contract without consulting him.  BMC manager Nelson Radijeng said they decided to terminate Vilakazi’s contract following a recommendation by the technical team. He said the technical committee held a meeting with Vilakazi where they told him that they were not happy with his performance and it was an amicable agreement that the two parties should part.

Radijeng said there was a clause in the contract, which entitled the team to terminate the contract for non-performance.

Vilakazi has always had it tough since he arrived in the country in the middle of last year after Gift Mogapi recruited him.
