BRU waits for clubs to name potential office bearers

BRU secretary general, Kadimo Modisa told Mmegi Sport yesterday that they made an announcement to the clubs last week to submit the names of the people they want in the leadership of the union.

He said that the deadline for the submission of the names is next week but did not divulge the date. Modisa said the clubs would decide on the quality of the leaders they want.

He said BRU cannot dictate to the clubs who to elect that is why they have not set out the qualities of the candidates who should contest, adding that they want to reach out to all areas where they had members.

'The positions that will be contested for are for president, vice president, secretary general, treasurer and two additional members,'he said.

The current president, Bob Lekan, has indicated that he would not be contesting but other committee members have not made such a declaration.

According to information reaching Mmegi Sport, some people who have shown interest in different positions are Aupa Pandor from BDF Cheetahs (president), Elijah Jones from Gaborone Hogs (president) and Lesedi Keekae from UB Rhinos (vice president).

Meanwhile, Modisa said the main challenge that they faced during their term in office had been lack of sponsorship and as a result the BRU A Division League ended without a sponsor.

He said it was disappointing for a team to win the league and walk away without a prize. Modisa was also concerned about the money that they spent paying different institutions for the use of stadiums.

However, BRU was planning to build a multi-million Pula stadium, which it intended to do in phases but sponsors were not coming forward.  Modisa urged the local business community to support rugby.
