Ohmz The Don, who grew up in the townships of Lobatse, is now based in Gaborone. He is currently working on his upcoming project, which he says, is yet to shock many.
Having been under the tutelage of Ruxion of the Magosi fame, Ohmz The Don learnt to rap at a tender age. The 22-year-old said that he is yet to take the hip pop scene by storm.
'Apart from Ruxion, I caught the hip hop bug from listening to Eminem, DMX and Third Mind. Hip pop is a very diverse genre where one can express their thoughts and opinions to the world, so I fell in love with this,” he said.
With so many rappers in the game, Ohmz The Don mentioned that what sets him apart from other rappers is his ability to flow. He said: 'I feel anyone can rap, but not everyone can deliver the rap effortlessly. Something I have practiced over the years with the numerous cover tracks I have released digitally. So far the artist I respect the most for having displayed that skill perfectly is SA’s Khuli Chana.” At the moment, Ohmz The Don has two digital mixtapes available online, The Anonymous Rapper released in January 2012 and The Foundation EP - Journey To The Build Up released in August 2013.
'My latest single Don’t Stop released in October 2013 debuted at number 26 on the Yarona fm Top 40 countdown, peaking at number 5 on its third week. The single stayed on the countdown for 14 weeks. After releasing it online the single got the attention of South African rapper Hip Hop Pantsula’s street team and was made available for download on his website. He put it up on his Twitter profile gaining over 500 downloads in the two-hour window,' he said.
He added that Don’t Stop was also play listed in three South African radio stations, University of Northwest Fm, Voice of Wits (VOW) and UJ Fm. He said, Don’t Stop tells the tale of not giving up on a dream but rather believing in yourself and pursuing that dream regardless of the problems, pressures & negativity from people'.
His second single titled KoolKids is a follow up to his Don’t Stop hit. It is a sing along track that will appeal to all ages.
He said his upcoming project The Build Up is slated to be an eight to 10-track offering. Upon completion it will boast production from TR-Hitz who produced his lead single Don’t Stop and also market him as an artist.
'We plan to release it digitally in mid-2014. I am not releasing an album anytime soon because I don’t think I am at a point where I am ready to drop one. I am trying to grow as an artist and find my sound and my niche,” he said.
