Shops are already filled with gifts for customers to buy for their loved ones. While some cannot wait for the day to finally arrive, others do not understand what the fuss is all about. They rather wish it passes by quickly. Either way the day cannot be avoided and deserves to be celebrated in honour of St Valentine.
A quick chat with our celebrities proved that the love bug has bitten some of them.
Radio personality Phenyo Ntshinogang affectionately known as DJ Sly told Arts & Culture that he does not really celebrate the day. He said that he chooses to show love to his girlfriend everyday not just on February 14.
'I feel love should be celebrated everyday not just on one day. But having said that I am going to spoil my woman rotten this month, everything she wants she is going to get it,” he said.
Female hip pop artist, Sasa Klass, said that she would be working on the day. She mentioned that being an artist is hard work, as one needs to travel to different places to perform.
'I will be performing at Fresh Exclusive Club in Maun, but the nice part about it is that I am going there with my boyfriend so maybe we will steal some time to be with each other after work,'she said.
She added that this is her first valentine with her boyfriend of one year. She is having high expectations for the day, she said.
Thobo Kerekang famously known as Ruxion, said he would be celebrating the day with his girlfriend.
“Valentine is about giving and spending time with my baby, although I haven’t figured out what exactly we will be doing. But one thing for sure is that I am going to write her a love letter because she has been nagging me to write it and since I am an artist am good at being creative,” he said.
Women of Jazz Punah Gabasiame and Nnunu Ramogotsi were excited when telling Arts & Culture of the their plans for the day. Nnunu said that she always makes sure that she does not work on Valentine’s Day so that she spends the day with her boyfriend of four years.
'We are always together on this day. We might do a romantic night at home. I believe in love and I have bought my love something special, so this is definitely going to be our night,” said Nnunu.
Punah on the other hand said she will be performing at Palapye on the day, but was quick to point out that this will not stop her from celebrating the day with her fiancé. “I am not going there without him, and luckily I have planned to surprise him with the best gift ever… me singing live to him,” she said.
For Thobo Tlhasana, Valentine is just an ordinary day like any other as he celebrates love everyday with his wife Gaona. He said that the day would be just a bonus for them as everyday is Valentine’s Day to them.
'I make sure I buy my wife flowers everyday and I tell her I love her all the time. I do not need a specific day to prove my love for her,” he said.
Other celebrities are celebrating Valentine’s Day as singles. Hip pop artist K-Bos told Arts & Culture that until he finds that one woman who will sweep him off his feet then that is when he will celebrate the day.
'Since I am single I haven’t figured out what I am going to do but I hope I will not be bored on the day,' he said.
Award-winning Afro pop singer Lizibo said that he will be alone on the day but being single will not keep him from celebrating the day. He said: 'I am planning a trip to Francistown where I am booked to perform. I will be making someone’s valentine with my music so either way I will put a smile on someone’s face.'
