Black Forest Douse Fighters

It did not take long before Merafhe Obonetse punished Fighters in the 20th minute, tapping in from a corner. After scoring, Forest continued dominating the match, forcing Fighters to defend in numbers. The formidable attacking trio of Letlhogonolo Ralenyena, Obonetse and Pitso kept Fighters busy the entire afternoon.

Fighters were forced to introduce the fresh legs of Ishmael Netty in the 38th minute to try and stop the attacks.

In the second half, they put up a better show and had Forest on the back-foot with Malebogo Ntebogang missing narrowly in the 47th minute with a long-range effort.

Four minutes later, the equaliser came when Ntebogang scored from a free-kick. However, Fighters went behind again in the 74th minute when substitute Oaitse Sekgele scored. Five minutes later, Pitso hammered in the last nail in Fighters’ coffin, to make sure that Forest collected maximum points.

Fighters’ coach, Mpho Mabogo told Monitor Sport that their plan did not work in the first half and they tried coming back into the match in the second half. He conceded that Forest was too fast for his players. He said when they started attacking, they forgot to defend and made it easy for Forest to score the two goals. Mabogo said he was using the game to gauge three players that joined Fighters recently.
