Tyte Ditches Calabash Gig

Speaking to Showtime, the organiser of the event Tirelo Bryan Kusane said that she was shocked when the artist stopped picking up their calls when it was time for them to collect her.

“We were communicating with her the entire night and everything was well until I called her at around 11:00 pm.  I was calling to tell her that I am on my way to her house but surprisingly she did not pick up my calls.  Instead she hanged up,” he said.

Kusane added that this is not the first time the artist played this prank on promoters. He said he had heard from other promoters that when she is booked she tends not to turn up for gigs.

“Even the man who did banners for us told us that she will not show up, but we somehow hoped that she would come,” he said.

Tyte told Showtime that the show was disorganised, as the organisers did not draw up a contract for her to sign.

“They told me about the show late.  They called me on Tuesday and told me that they included me in their line-up.  Then they went quite on me the whole week up until Friday when they said they are coming to fetch me,” she said.

She further explained that they never agreed on the money that she would be paid for her performance.

“I have been taken advantaged of so many times and I will never allow this to happen again.  I cannot let people book me for a show without signing a contract with me first or discussing details about the show with me. Imagine being called and then being told someone is coming to pick you up for a show you are booked for,” she said.

The house kwasa sensation added that she is owed a lot of money because of such situations.

She said: “I used to just perform without contracts because I trusted people and after that people would not pay me.”

Tyte’s album, released in 2011, is said to be doing very well even in today’s market. The album is titled S’thibo and it featured hits like Lefufa, Ke Lapile and the title track S’thibo. She said she is currently in the studio working on her follow up album.
