BRU names candidates

BRU secretary Kadimo Modisa told Mmegi Sport that clubs were given the opportunity to come up with the names of people they want in the executive committee.

He said there were some people who had been nominated for more than one position as a result of some of the clubs’ failure to coordinate. He stated that clubs should have communicated over the nominations.

Elijah Jones (Gaborone Hogs) will replace Bob Lekan as BRU president as he is unopposed for the position. Thusego Segaise (EMG Gunners), Farid Pandor (BDF Cheetahs) and Donald Kandima (UB Rhinos) will battle it out for the position of vice president.

Vincent Mashaya (Gaborone Hogs) and Pandor will fight for treasurer position.

The incumbent secretary, Modisa (BDF Cheetahs) will face competition for the position from Kandima, Alex Basitang (no club) and Jerome Alabu (UB Rhinos).

Additional members are Segaise, Mpho Masisi (Jwaneng), Lesedi Keekae (UB Rhinos), Curtis Matobolo (Botho University), Matthews Porogo (Jwaneng), Kagiso Maruping (Mochudi Rugby Club) and Emmanuel Mabulane (Botswana Accountancy College).  Modisa said clubs had been given all relevant information they would need for the meeting and each club will be sending two representatives.

The outgoing president and treasurer will present their reports in one of the highlights of the AGM.  Meanwhile, rugby player David Seane told Mmegi Sport that the first thing that the new committee should engage in is to ensure transparency and also bring in sponsors to the game.  Seane said the committee should set get right and have a clear plan for the union.

He said development officers should be deployed across the country to grow rugby, adding that women rugby should be given a chance.

“One of the things that I think should happen is that the union should not base all its interventions in Gaborone.

We have other areas that need to be reached, so an office in the northern part of the country would be good for the development of the sport,” said Seane.
