UBs media studies research papers go online

The research papers were originally presented at a series of seminars hosted by the Department of Media Studies in the Faculty of Humanities last year.

The work reflects the wide range of teaching and research that takes place within the department. It covers print media, independent television production, the representation of dance on film, corporate social responsibility and development and media literacy.

The collection is edited by Richard Rooney, Associate Professor and Head of the Media Studies Department.

Prof Rooney said: “This is the first time we have published a collection of our work and made it available for anyone with an Internet connection to receive free-of-charge. All you have to do to get it is go to scribd dot com and put Botswana Media Studies Papers into the search engine.”

The Media Studies Department is the premier centre for the teaching and research of vocational and theoretical media in Botswana.

Prof Rooney said: “We thought it was important that anyone, not just other academics, could have access to our work.”

He added: “The research papers should be of useful to students, people who work in the media, policy-makers and anyone else with an interest in the subject.”
