Donkey Carts win council tenders

South East District Council Chairperson, Joseph Sorinyane said during a full council session last week that the initiative was initially introduced in Otse and Mogobane villages, but has since been extended to some wards in Ramotswa as a way of continuing to empower locals.  “All these have already laid positive footprints in the district.

May I appeal to all of you to continue showing your eagerness for the success of these initiatives,” he told councillors.

Further, the council has engaged small-scale contractors in the district to do maintenance of primary school furniture.

The initiative is expected to improve local economic empowerment by engaging local artisans through the assistance of Parents Teachers Association (PTA) committees. According to the chairperson, the council opted for repair and refurbishment instead of procurement of furniture as most of the furniture is still serviceable.

“Whilst promoting local empowerment, the initiative will also serve as a reduction in council expenses specifically the budget for procurement of furniture,” said Sorinyane.
