The 27-year-old showcased his comedic skills when performing at his ‘One-Man Comedy Show’ held at the President Hotel.
The young man proved to the doubting Thomases that it takes determination and a lot of practice to perfect one’s talent.
Under the theme ‘For The Laff Of It’, Paps started this year’s Laff-A-Lot comedy shows with a bang.
The turnout for the show was also impressive as many comedy fans came in large numbers to show their support.
Opening for him was Laff-A-Lot comedy crew’s best, Phenyo ‘The Master’ Phaladi and Odirile Brooks. The two warmed the stage up before the main act. Before he even took to the stage, the cheering that Paps received proved the crowd longed for him.
As he cracked jokes, ridiculing real life situations and politics, the crowd could not help but laugh it up. What mostly stood out during the course of his performance was his ability to involve the audience. He made jokes about them while he kept saying ‘sir is this joke not funny enough for you’.
Speaking to Showbiz, Paps mentioned that it took weeks of preparation to wow the audience enough for him to remain etched in their minds.
“This is the first show of the year from Laff-A-Lot comedy crew so I had to start it on a high note. Our fans need to see that we have improved from our previous shows,” he said, adding that judging by the cheering he received, he is sure that he impressed the fans.
He said that the show also marked his one-year anniversary as a professional comedian.
He said: “I have been in this business for a year now and although the road has not been an easy one. I have managed to overcome a lot of challenges that presented themselves along the way. The other achievement I am proud of is that I was able to break into the comedy world and have my presence felt in so many places.” Paps told Showbiz that he started taking interest in comedy years back when he was still on radio. “Different comedians used to come to my shows and shared their jokes with my listeners. Although at the time I did not think I could do it, I eventually started developing interest in it and last year I decided to try it professionally after practicing for a few months,” he said. Paps said being a comedian is seen as an easy when in actual fact it is one of the most difficult careers as it involves making people laugh. “Days are not the same. Sometimes people may be amused by your jokes while at other times they will be bored to death by them. I almost got beaten up by a man in one show I did.
He took serious offense to what I said. That aside I always make sure I stand out when I perform so that people remember me,” he said. The show was also recorded for DVD packaging. Paps said that the DVD would be on sales after all the Laff-A-Lot shows have been recorded.
