Twenty-three-year-old Oageng Sedimo pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared before Principal Magistrate Sijabuliso Siziba on Tuesday. The state alleges that Sedimo had unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl under the age of 16 in 2012 on a date unknown to the prosecution. Prosecutor James Moikotlhai told the court that he was not ready with the facts of the matter.
Siziba set April 25 for the facts of the matter to be read to the accused. In a similar matter, an unemployed man also from Matopi appeared before Siziba to answer to a single charge of defilement.
The state alleges that 47 year-old Lesetse Sidoda defiled a girl under the age of 16 also on a date unknown to the state in 2013. Moikotlhai told the court that investigations into the matter were complete and the state would call five witnesses to testify against Sidoda.
“The accused will be served with all documents related to the case immediately after court,” said Moikotlhai. Earlier Sidoda pleaded not guilty to the charge and told the court that he will conduct his own defence. He is due in court on November 10, 2014 for mention to confirm if he has been served with documents related to the case.
He will be tried on April 22 and 23 next year.
