“Malawi wanted to go for the kill in the opening 15 minutes of the first leg and we expect them to do the same tomorrow (today), but we are equally prepared and not intending to defend the away goal. We are going for a win,” Mbaiwa said during a press conference yesterday.

In the first leg, Gaborone United midfielder, Karabo Phiri equalised for Botswana after Khumbo Ng’ambi had given Malawi an early lead.

Mbaiwa said the ultimate goal is qualifying for the tournament in Senegal and they are aware of the hurdles that stand in their way. “Our main aim as a team is Senegal 2015 and we know we will have to take it step by step. After Malawi, our next opponent will be DRC, and we are confident we will achieve our dream,” he said.

Malawi coach, Ernest Mtawali confirmed Mbaiwa’s sentiments, saying they plan to play an attacking game like they did in the first leg.

“We are going into the game as underdogs, but we will do our best. Our game plan is not to sit back, we are going to attack from the word go,” said the ex-Orlando Pirates midfielder. Just like Botswana, he has a few youngsters that have Premiership experience in the mould of Chawananga Kaonga of Silver Stars and Dalisto Sailesi.

Kaonga scored the only goal when the Young Flames beat South Africa in an international friendly last Saturday in Soweto.

“Their experience will play a greater role in Botswana and I have no doubt we will come out with a good result,” Mtawali said.

His Botswana rival, Innocent Morapedi said they have prepared well and they will adopt a simple game plan to overcome their opponents.  “Our preparations went well. Our game plan is simple, play well and win the match because this game means a lot to the boys and the nation at large,” he explained. He is happy with the attitude of the players.
