JT said that although he is known for hits such as Cry and Be Your Man, which made a huge impact in the hip-hop scene, he is yet to surprise many with God Given. “I am a Christian at heart and I have taken my Christianity to my music now. Most of my tracks talk about the love He has for us which is more than the love one can receive from any human being,” he said.
He explained that the album is his testimony to the world on how God has changed his life for the better. His lyrics, address issues he faced as a child. Through his music he has committed to making a difference in music.
“I used to be a very naughty child who used to give my parents stress until I found God who showed me the light. My fans are already enjoying singles like Unforgotten and Psalms 24:3 maybe because they can relate with them. Unforgotten talks about my childhood and the other one is on the verse, which people tend to ignore in the Bible,” he said.
The Tonota-born artist is determined to reach heights that no artist in his genre has reached. JT said he plans to market his album internationally as he wants his music to be heard around the globe.
“I want to change lives not only in our country but also here because everybody knows that preaching the word of God in a form of a song is soothing and comforting. My music is both entertaining and comforting,” he said.
He also mentioned that his album would hit stores in a few months.
Meanwhile, JT said to him hip-hop is more than just music, explaining that it is more like a lifestyle. He mentioned that the genre is sometimes taken for granted, adding that nowadays, everyone is claiming to be able to sing hip-hop. He said hip-hop does not only require talent but also the love, passion and creativity to do it well.
He said as an artist he wants to make people fall in love with the genre and possibly make them follow the lifestyle. He said that he hopes his upcoming album will do just that.
“Hip-hop is not just about rapping about girls and money, there is more to it than that. It is our way of life and not only do our clothes distinguish us from the rest but even our dreams,” he said.
