“Honestly, I didn’t think I was going to win the award again this year so I was a bit surprised when my name was called out. Having said that, I know that I qualified to be chosen all the same because I have what it takes to be Botswana’s top male model,” the 23-year-old model who hails from Tonota said.
The win came at the right time for Cendric. Though he won last year, he was not given any award, but this year like other winners, he was invited on stage where he got the opportunity to receive his award from President Ian Khama.
How he felt when he met the President? Cendric said he felt honoured. “I have met the President before at another event, but it was the first time I received an award from him with the whole country watching. I felt so honoured,” he said.
Cendric is soon to get his first overseas gig courtesy of the Department of Youth and Culture. In his interview with Showbiz last year, the model had said that he wanted to walk international ramps and it looks like his dream is going to come true soon.
Cendric is part of the group of local models and fashion designers selected to attend Toronto Fashion Week in the city of Toronto early next month.
“I never thought it would happen so soon although I have always kept my fingers crossed,” he said. He further said that he hopes that the week in Canada will help him network with people in the international modelling industry, which he said will help boost his career.
The model started off as an amateur, but he was willing to learn the trade. He rose though the ranks until the owner of Madame Queen Modelling Agency, Queen Kolobe, appointed him senior male model at the agency.
Ever since then, Cendric has appeared at a number of top modelling events in the country.
He has walked the ramp at some malls such as Riverwalk, BBS and Airport Junction to promote clothes from several stores.
Cendric has also appeared in shop magazines for the aforementioned malls. The ambitious model also paraded at the Junior Miss Botswana 2013.
After having worked with Madame Queen Modelling Agency for a number of years, Cendric is now a freelancer, which he says needs hard work and determination.
