A respected Bakgatla chief and head of delegation which recently returned to meet with officials from Khama’s office waxed lyrical about the hospitality they were accorded there.

He told Bakgatla it is only a matter of time before Khama is welcome at the Mochudi Kgotla amid deafening ululations. The delegation chair Moagi Molebatsi made a presentation on Saturday at a packed meeting, where he told the crowd that they have always held the mistaken belief that Khama is their enemy.

The delegation narrated that although they had not met Khama, the President’s senior personal secretary George Tlhalerwa had welcomed them with a feast befitting kings.

He said they were overwhelmed by the warm reception.

“He gave us food to eat, and even more to pack. We sat on comfortable chairs we were not familiar with and even played around in them,” he said.  Molebatsi added that Tlhalerwa had promised the tribe that he would present their grievances to Khama.

“I realised that the people at the Office of the President, including Khama, do not have a problem with us Bakgatla,” chipped in Kgosana Morema, who was part of the delegation. He added that the problem is that some members of the tribe cause divisions.

“Therefore you need to be careful of people who go behind our backs and cause division within this tribe,” he warned.

Morema expressed hope that all will be well between the Bakgatla and government, given the warm reception they received at State House. “Let us unite Bakgatla so that when the President comes here, he finds us united,” he asserted.

Earlier on, Molebatsi had said their wish is for Khama to address Bakgatla.

“The way I see things everything is going to be well between us and government and when Khama comes here, members of the mephato (Bakgatla age regiments)  and not his army, will be his security, like the time when he came here to install Kgafela as our chief,” he said.

Molebatsi also noted that they had assured Tlhalerwa that Khama would be safe in Mochudi.
