According to Brand Botswana, the stamp, which includes the pride mark, will be used at all Botswana ports of entry and this is expected to bring the values and principles embodied in the pride mark alive to immigration personnel.

The main ports of entry – Sir Seretse Khama, Francistown, Maun and Kasane Airports as well as the Tlokweng Border post – will be branded with vibrant imagery that depicts different aspects of life in Botswana. When launching the stamp, Minister of Trade and Industry Dorcas Makgato-Malesu explained that the initiative began with discussions between the Ministry of Trade and Industry through Brand Botswana and the Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs, Department of Immigration and Citizenship in an effort to promote the pride mark. She said the discussions culminated in Brand Botswana sponsoring the initiative to procure an initial bunch of 258 stamps bearing the Pride Mark.

“The initiative is aimed at improving the country’s immigration services as well as achieving the mandate of the nation brand programme,” she stressed. The minister also revealed that Brand Botswana is also in the process of visually energising the borders and airports through branding. She stated that each artwork speaks to the unique quality of that area.

“Those of you who have recently flown into Sir Seretse Khama International Airport will have noticed the branding that highlights some of Botswana’s unique selling points such as diamonds and our vibrant culture,” she said, adding that the airport branding will also include the Kasane, Francistown and Maun International airports as well as the Tlokweng border.

“We want our immigration officers to be proud of the environments they work in and for visitors to feel excited about the opportunity that awaits them in Botswana,” she enthused. Makgatho-Malesu further noted that the efforts led to Brand Botswana and the Department of Immigration and Citizenship redesigning the immigration stamp, and ensuring that all travellers now have a souvenir as they go through our borders.

She said the idea of placing the pride mark in all passports is to share a piece of Botswana with those from outside, emphasising that this is a unique and innovative way to imprint the country in the hearts and minds of visitors.

For his part, Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, Edwin Batshu pointed out that with time the results of welcoming smiles and behaviour will manifest in increased foreign direct investment, as well as the number of tourists in the country, through interaction with global community.

“I appreciate this partnership with Brand Botswana and the anticipated difference it will make to all visitors and locals utilising our airports and borders,” he said.
