Legends show cancelled last minute

Yesteryear stars Babsy Mlangeni, Neo Maphaka of CJB fame and Pure Magic founder Peter Mokwena were just some of the musicians billed to perform at the much-anticipated show.

Others were Thabile Mazolwana, Table Madiba and Phamela Nkutha.

Promoter Abel ‘Abisto’ Modutlwa says that suggestions that he failed to secure a permit with the department of culture were false.

Modutlwa added that the only reason the show could not proceed because of the disagreement between him and the owners of the venue.

“I thought I had understood our agreement, but at last I realised I was wrong and unfortunately the artists were already here.  I do not want to comment much on the issue because I am still trying to contact the owners,” he said.

“I am sorry to all those who wanted to be part of this show and to the musicians because I believe they were looking forward to performing in Botswana,” he said.

It has been over 20 years since the blind musician, Mlangeni, played in Botswana while Maphaka has in recent years been touring the country.

The likeable Mlangeni reminisced about the good old days at the Gaborone Town Hall and that he has missed the cheers from local fans.

He has just finished recording a new album called Bakae, which will be released next year.

“I do not want it to be lost in the Christmas rush.  I have not been releasing since 2005, so I am like a new artist,”  he said.
