The well attended show promised little excitement until the bulky musician turned the heat on with the reassuring re-mix, which clearly moved the crowd.
Mpolelle re Babedi is an original song by the visually impaired Fiki-Ditau, and over two decades and has been regarded as one of the finest original compositions by a local performer.
Although, Kast only used another female musician to mimic the blind musician, the crowd did not seem to bothered, especially because the song was not played live.
Its reverberating Caribbean beat laced with Fiki-Ditau’s piercing voice and Kast’s rhythmic rap lines make the track a true love song.
Prior to performing Mpolelle re Babedi, Kast had already managed to capture the crowd’s attention with his popular track Sejabana with the audience singing along with him.
Kwaito king ping Mapetla, who has been missing in action, reminded his followers that kwaito is in him, performing hits such as Isenzele and Lapha Skhona before sampling his new single Mina Nawe. His performance would have been incomplete without pulling some of his trademark cheeky dance moves.
Troubled rapper A.T.I.’s magnetic attraction proved irresistible once again as the audience excitedly welcomed him on stage. Those who had formed small groups far from the stage just sprang forward when the MC Dollar Mac announced the arrival of the musician. Everyone just needed to be as close as possible to the celebrated musician.
The sound of Batho Bame Vatsei simply brought an electrifying atmosphere and the crowd jovially responded with wild shouts perhaps in anticipation of a great performance capped with the rapper’s current hottest song, O Tsididi but that was not to be. By the time he left the stage, the crowd was clearly disappointed. Playing the new Kaching number did not make up for the more popular O Tsididi.
As if to predict his future, A.T.I. announced that his new album will only be out “once my troubles are over”.
The young musician is facing the possibility of serving a lengthy jail term following his alleged kidnapping of a man he accused of stealing his money last year in Serowe. His case is back in court after he was provisionally released two months ago.
