Through his music, the talented composer is spreading the word, advising people to look out for early signs and symptoms and pleaded for love and care for the victims.
Though not one of the most prominent musicians locally, talented Gifa mixes his artistic brilliance with a powerful message in the track. Reminiscent of R Kelly’s Heaven I Need A Hug, Gifa’s track starts off with a bit of touching poetry.
The opening line goes, “Oh God/ Can you hear me. /I got this sickness that I didn’t choose and I always ask myself a question, Why me?/ I ask myself another question. Why somebody else and who? /Cancer is a real killer./ I’m ready to fight. /Never say never,/ Life is uncertain, it could be anybody”.
The song explores the life of a person living with cancer who feels isolated. “Don’t look at me as if I’m already dead./ I’m still alive./ I’m right here. /Just give me hope, that’s all I want. /I’m like a soldier/ I’m ready to fight./ I know it’s never easy/ I’m facing the monster. / My doctor tells me it’s gonna take some time./ But I’ll make it just give me a word of hope and keep me going./ Just give me a word of hope and keep me going,” he says.
The single is part of his new album only expected in August next year.
“I have been touched by what the disease is doing to people and I have also realised that what complicates the problem is lack of awareness. Can you imagine so many people do not even know where the cancer association offices are?” Gifa tells Showbiz.
The 36-year-old says while he does not have the money to support those affected by the disease he believed that spreading the message through the music could play a big role in the fight. He also said that he has already met with various stakeholders.
“I cannot promise money at this stage because I do not know how the album will do. It is coming out next year because I have one musician from Finland who I want to feature and another one from South Africa. What I can commit to is giving the cancer association my music for free if they have events geared towards fighting this disease. I am ready to perform for free at such event,” he said.
