BCA intensifies search for cricket coach

The association has invited interested individuals to submit their CVs. The team has been without a coach since Menon’s departure in August last year. BCA fixtures and publicity secretary, Sumod Damodar told Mmegi Sport they want an experienced coach. “We need an African coach who has good cricket experience on all formats of the game which are test, one day internationals and T20 cricket,” Damodar explained. He said it will be an added advantage if the coach comes from a test playing nation.

He said a number of candidates from different countries have submitted their CVs and a closing date for application is yet to be announced. “After the submission, we take a look at the CVs, vet them and select the coach,” he said. Damodar said the new coach will work closely with development sides, grooming players for the national team. He said due to financial challenges, the BCA will not hire specialist coaches.

The BCA has intensified moves to hire a coach as part of preparations for the Division One International Cricket Council (ICC) tournament next year. Some national team players have reportedly shown interest in the vacant post.

Botswana played visiting English side, Maryleborne Cricket Club (MCC) without a coach last month.  Meanwhile, a group of five young players from the development sides has been invited to Benoni, South Africa for a training stint this week. BCA is yet to release the names of the selected players.
