BFA president, Tebogo Sebego has said they will assemble a team to look into Babitseng’s case. The BFA executive committee meets today. Babitseng was suspended in November for alleged embezzlement of funds following the Zebras’ trip to Guinea Bissau where he was head of delegation.
The Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) queried a financial report the BFA submitted after the trip to West Africa, resulting in Babitseng’s suspension. Sebego explained that the BFA had asked BNSC to assist in dealing with the case but this could not happen because the council was a complainant in the matter.
“Initially we had asked the BNSC to assist us, but they are complainants in the case and therefore referred it back to us.
We have to pick a team to look into the matter and expect to conclude the issue in two weeks,” Sebego said.
He said the BFA would deal with officials who deviate from the norm, even if such action attracts negative publicity.
“There is a lot of good work we do at BFA. If it attracts negative publicity because we are solving problems, then let it be.
Whoever deviates should face action,” he said. Sebego stated that executive committee members would undergo a course “so that the leadership is in the right frame”.
He said they expect to do a lot in 2015 including investing in human capital.
“In order for us to deliver on our ideals, we have started training administrators.
We are also keen to consolidate the gains that the Zebras made. We expect better performances,” he said. Meanwhile, Sebego departs for Equatorial Guinea on Monday for the Africa Cup of Nations where is he part of the organising committee.
Sebego will be based in the city of Mongomo, which will host the group of death involving South Africa, Ghana, favourites Algeria and Senegal. The three-week long tournament starts on January 17.
