Much-loved Hamptons jazz festival returns

This year the much-anticipated festival is likely to take place in March though the date has not been confirmed as yet.

According to Hamptons Promoters Director, Debbie Smith, “Plans are underway for the event.  My team and I are going to pull out all the stops on this show”.

She further said that they envisage that the festival will be as popular and memorable as the first one.

Recently, there has been quite a lot of info on Hamptons Promoters Facebook hinting to musicians likely to perform at the jazz festival.

International artists who made the list as Hamptonetts’ choice for the show include Oliver Mtukudzi, Ringo, Stimela, Mango Groove, Mahotella Queens, Black Coffee, just to mention a few. However, the final line-up is yet to be confirmed.

Smith also noted that local stars have also been chosen, subject to contract confirmations, will also feature in the show. The Hamptons team have also advertised for a Motswana who can play saxophone, trumpet or any jazz instruments to send them a clip of their performance.  The closing date for submissions is January 17, 2015.  The lucky winner will be paid for their performance.

“We do not believe in using talent for free.  All our artists were paid last year and this will be done this year too,” Smith explained.

Directors, Smith and Starr Ngwenya, added that events like this boost local tourism economy as they attract a high number of domestic, African and international travellers. 

They further noted that the festival provides a platform for an exchange of professional and intellectual capital and expertise.

The Hamptons Jazz Festival has become a preferred event on the Botswana calendar as it promotes awareness and appreciation for all forms of jazz through quality live musical performance.

“We want to please, entertain our fans and for them to have an utmost fantastic time too,” she said.

Hamptons Promoters are working hard to be a cutting-edge global competitor in events management. 

It plays a major role in highlighting and promoting Botswana as a prominent destination on the international entertainment circuit.
