The 23-year-old disc jockey is very passionate about music and loves entertaining people. The young man who is currently pursuing his studies at university in Perth, Australia, is a star when it comes to spinning the decks.
DJ Wave Dave has been on vacation for the past few months, and has used this as an opportune time to rock Boulevard pub restaurant in Phakalane on weekends, and fire the decks at other events around the city.
DJ Wave Dave, who is also a composer, says the music bug bit him from a young age. “I started being a disc jockey when I aged 15. I used to watch my uncles turning tables at family parties and that’s where my interest developed,” he says.
Since practice makes perfect, in no time his skills improved and that’s when he started playing at parties.
In 2005, his father opened a nightclub called The Zone Night Club in Gaborone. DJ Wave Dave was one of the youngest DJs on the nightclub scene at the time.
Back in Australia, DJ Wave Dave spins the decks at Spanish Fly Club in central Perth and The Deen Night Club in Northbridge Aberdeen Street.
DJ Wave Dave is also a member of the well-known Respect the Talent (RTT) group based in Perth. The group is comprised of four talented friends who came together in 2013 to produce Afro hip-hop music.
The other members are Syan and JWils, both from Zambia and ETC from Zimbabwe. RTT is one of the first independent Afro-Hip hop groups to come out of Australia.
The group fuses a unique blend of African house drumbeats: electronic synchs, catchy hooks and infectious hip hop flows.
The group is slowly but surely establishing itself as a force to be reckoned with both in Africa and Australia.
After meeting RTT members, Dave Wave also started writing songs and rapping. Music director Joel Crane shot the group’s music videos, which can be viewed on YouTube.
The group released their first mix tape Zambezi Flows in February, with two versions one for iTunes, Google Play and another free download on dat piff.com.
The group’s second single Weekend is yet to be released and will be downloadable from iTunes and Google Play version.
So far, RTT has thousands of downloads done on the above-mentioned sites. The group has recently added a clothing line to its list of accomplishments.
