Briefing Selebi-Phikwe civic leaders at his office on Tuesday, Molefhi who is also the MP for Selebi-Phikwe East said that they plan on making follow-ups as well as supervise their juniors to improve performance.

He said they agreed to engage and meet the Selebi-Phikwe Economic Diversification Unit (SPEDU) and the BCL mine every six months to evaluate and report any developments.

On other issues, the Minister explained that the Botswana Telecommunications Corporation Limited (BTCL) shares were not sold last year as it was realised that two years was not enough for Batswana to raise funds.  He said the public should be given enough information about the shares.

Botshabelo Central councillor, Molefhe Molatlhegi, praised Molefhi for the positive steps he has taken.  He however felt the minister should have consulted civic leaders before approaching the town authorities.

He reminded the MP to make follow-ups on the pending proposed new bus/taxi rank, construction of a new stadium and the renovation of the Botshabelo customary court.

Whilst he appreciated the MP’s address, the councillor for Botshabelo East, Ramatopi Kgakgamatso, noted that Selebi-Phikwe is a sporting town, therefore it was imperative that the stadium is developed within the proposed timeframe.

For his part, the town mayor, Leonard Mojuta, emphasised that good relations with both BCL mine and SPEDU, which are crucial for the economic sustenance of the town, will continue to yield good results.
