BCP to discuss cooperation with UDC?

A highly placed source in the party has disclosed that cooperation with the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) is going to form part of the discussions during the meeting, which is held once a month.
BCP secretary general, Dr Kesitegile Gobotswang did not want to talk about the issue, saying that on Thursday, they will discuss preparations for their elective congresses later this year. He said the meeting would also discuss the agenda, the venues and programmes for the congresses. “I cannot discuss the issue of opposition cooperation. There is distortion around that issue and I’m not going to talk about it,” he said.
Reports say that the BCP elective congress is likely to be held in Ramotswa. This is because the party won the Ramotswa constituency for the first time during the October general elections. Samuel Rantuana clinched the constituency, ousting the incumbent, Odirile Motlhale, of the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) in a tight contest.
“I would not say we are going to hold the main congress in Ramotswa. Strategically we will look at many other factors to consider the venue,” said Gobotswang.
This year will be busy for BCP, as it will hold three elective congresses for the Youth League, the Women’s League and the central committee. It is likely that cooperation with the UDC will top the agenda of the congresses.
The main BCP congress is traditionally held in July during the holidays. This year, it may decide the direction the party takes as far as cooperation is concerned.
