Through Kenny’s Poetry Sessions, which has since changed its name to Motswarapoetry, which stands for Motswako, Rap and Poetry, he has been able to create a platform for upcoming artists.

The sessions, which started in his garage last year, have grown in leaps and bounds and he is now proud to declare that his dream of bringing all artists together is taking shape.

“Motswarapoetry is growing bigger and attracts a lot of young rough diamonds from across the creative arts spectrum.

“This is now a monthly spectacle of arts held at Thapong Visual Arts Centre.  From the humble beginnings where I did it at my house with only a few friends to where we are today with a bigger audience regularly, I believe my dream of putting creative minds together to inspire each other is gradually taking shape,” Ketshotseng told Showbiz.

During the event, aspiring motswako rappers, poets and fine artists showcase their talents.

Ketshotseng explained that to make the session more exciting he had put one of his art pieces for grabs.

The next Motswarapoetry session will be held on Saturday.

“This time I am introducing a little competition where performing artists will observe some artworks, analyse them and write a brief description of the works. They will accumulate some points, after which they will perform one by one and be judged as well.  The winning rapper takes home my piece worth P3,000,” Ketshotseng said.

The talented painter noted that this is in line with the show’s idea of improving appreciation of the performing and visual arts. He also said that it was his hope that participating fine artists are inspired by the poems and rap lines dished on the night. “We want the creative minds to inspire each other.  They need to appreciate and recognise each other’s talents.  I believe a rapper who listens to an inspiring poem can draw a few lines from there and create a mega hit,” Ketshotseng said.
