Police IX clobber Panthers

The game marked the end of the 2014/15 Southern Zone league games.Police IX started to tear apart their opponents in the first inning as they scored four runs. Panthers failed to respond. It was only in the second inning when Tiro Mazugwa hit a home run for the ill prepared Panthers and that was it. Otherwise Panthers offered very little in this game and it was clear they came unprepared.
Police IX scored three more runs in the fourth inning to put the game beyond their opponents’ reach.
The game ended in the fifth inning and it was mission accomplished for the cops. Police IX have been in top form since losing to BDF IX three weeks ago. Since then they went on rampage, winning the next three matches. They beat BMC, Blue Angels and their third victims were Panthers.
Police IX coach John Nkwane said his charges followed the instructions. He said they were doing well in their fielding except for one or two errors. But Police IX was not so content with the manner in which his players were batting. In his view, they could have done better and maybe buried their opponents with more scores.
Nkwane said they went on to rectify their errors since after they were defeated by BDF IX.
“I am happy about our performance. We are going to prepare for championship games. I am hoping that we are going to do our best,” said Nkwane whose team occupies position three.
Panthers coach, Meshack Bonang said he was not surprised by their loss since they were not ready for the game. He said his team was ill prepared and this should be a wake up lesson to them. “We lost the game before it started. My players came late and we were disorganised,” he said.
Bonang said at some stage he thought they were going to forfeit points because all his players were not there.
He said they have learnt that you can’t plan for a game within five minutes, adding that some of the players did not even have their kits. “It is a good lesson for us. We have learnt that you have to show up for games on time,” said the coach.
Meanwhile, 10 teams from the North and South will be fighting for bottom positions in Mahalapye this weekend. The men’s teams from the South are BMC, UB Giants and Blue Angels who would be battling it out with Rebels from Orapa and Palapye side, Motlakase.
The women’s teams from the South are Bears, BMC and UB Giants while the Northern teams will be Rapture from Serowe and the Orapa based side Wipers.
