With elegant moves, elaborate costumes, spectacular lighting and make-up, Joburg Ballet promises a breath-taking programme from classical ballets to contemporary routines bound to leave the audience entranced. The company’s mix of white and black dancers, reflect the racial and cultural demographics of South Africa.
Joburg Ballet’s mission is to make dance an accessible form of artistic expression across society, and to enhance standards, training, development, job creation, opportunities, continuity, sustainability, tourism, international goodwill, and transformation. The show will feature Botswana’s own Riza Ballet, from the ballet school owned by Rita Lee, who will open the floor for Joburg Ballet.
Maitisong director Gao Lemmenyane said they are excited about the upcoming show, as it promises to grow ballet in Botswana. “This presents an incredible opportunity for the young ballerinas here to step onto the stage alongside some of the world’s best ballet dancers. Hopefully, the young dancers will aspire to become part of great companies like the Joburg Ballet,” he said.
Tickets for the show can be purchased from Maitisong, Riverwalk Mall and all Spar outlets, for P250.00, P150.00 and P100.00.
