What do organisations say?

One of the counsellors at the non-governmental organisation, Kabo Ntsima, said such cases might be rampant, especially when the assailant knows the victim. Here we offer counselling to those who need it and if possible we do referrals so that victims of abuse of any sort may get the necessary help.
“Many cases go unreported and here we do not have record of those simply because the victims do not report first of all and they are even afraid of seeking professional help like counselling, which could be detrimental to them in the long run,” he said.
He further noted that they are willing to work with other stakeholders for perspectives, opinions and recommendations on the issue so that more women are encouraged to always report rape and know that it was never their fault. “Our offices are always open to help those that have gone through traumatic situations, but do not know where to go and where to begin. We are here to help so do not hesitate to contact us,” he said.
