Shot in the high-paced city of Johannesburg, Ayeye follows the lives, loves, heartaches and dreams of three friends JK, Neo and Lebo who share a loft in downtown Joburg, Maboneng District. Working as rockstar creatives at a fancy Sandton advertising agency the trio’s lives are nothing short of exhilarating and somewhat enviable.
It is hard to believe the show could become more entertaining than it already is. However, the arrival of Leano is a prime example of how the show’s creators took no prisoners when delivering content that could rival any internationally produced show seen before.
Kaone became Botswana’s golden girl when she scooped the top prize in the Face of Africa modelling competition in 2005. Ten years later, she is living in New York where she successfully launched her modelling career. However, it seems the television bug has truly bit the model who not only tried her hand at television presenting but is also now working towards becoming a seasoned actress.
On her current journey and the strides she has made in life thus far, Kaone says: “I couldn’t have imagined this or most of the amazing things I get up to do, but isn’t that the beauty of life? Ten years from now my story will be different. I believe if I had any idea what was coming [in my life] I wouldn’t have showed up.”
Kaone says she chose to make Ayeye the platform where she would make her acting debut because it “starts conversations”. “They are so raw, [that] they make some people uncomfortable. I am a believer in facing that which scares you,” she adds. It is in her interpretation of the show that viewers are able to see why the creators had no difficulties selecting her to be a part of this project.
Catch Kaone as she heats up the screens as Leano on Ayeye, Mondays at 21:00 CAT on Vuzu Amp, DStv Channel 114.
