Shop assistants form union

The union was registered with the Registrar of Trade Unions and Employers’ Organisation last year, and is led by president Opelo Baleseng.

According to the Government Gazette, the union was formed on July 22, 2014, and will be operating from the bus station in Gaborone.

The union’s  vice president is Thuso Modiseemang while Basinah Joseph is the secretary general. The treasurer is Kemmonye Thabiwe while additional members are Thabiso Kekgalemile, Kefilwe Elese and Lesego Kenosi. The trustees are Kago Phiri, Mothusi Jowawa and Kabatho Pooko.

While the organisation is officially registered, the legal requirement is that objections can still be entertained, within 30 days of publication of the notice in the Government Gazette.
