When things turned sour she never regretted releasing the song Sunshine, which was dedicated to her then partner.
“I was expressing my love for him and how happy I was, but things did not work out. But this song can appeal to anyone and remind those whose relationships might have failed of the good times,” she said.
The heavy queen of R&B is known for producing ‘music from the heart’. Her track Bua Sematla released in 2012, raised eyebrows. In the song a woman expresses her displeasure at a cheating partner who just appears baffled by the confrontation.
The follow up, Don’t You Walk Away was the exact opposite of the first track. In this one a woman who was caught cheating after giving the common excuse that “I’m in a meeting”, is appealing for forgiveness, emphasising how shattered she would be if she were to lose her man.
Undoubtedly one of the best local female vocalists, the musician passionately spelt out the love lyrics in the song. It was a good composition that highlighted the musician’s artistic ability in lyrical arrangement.
The latest single is also a celebration of love, but for the composer it only serves as a reminder of what could have been.
“It is not always sunshine in a relationship. There are bright and dark days, but at the end of it all love is something to celebrate.
As a musician you need to make the kind of music that people can actually feel, whether it brings back bad memories or it makes them shed a tear of joy, music must touch people, especially when it is a love song,” she said.
Despite making a good impression at the first attempt, D-Nice has failed to fulfill her earlier promise. “I am not where I would have wanted to be by now. I was inexperienced when I released my first album. I have learnt that good marketing is crucial for any album to be successful.
I know I should not rush to release songs into digital media before putting them first on radio and newspapers. That is why I am not in a rush to release my new album,” she said.
