The Johannesburg launch marked the last leg of a world tour with stops in Bangkok, Singapore, and New York since the global unveiling that was held in London in April.

Yudi Ramabaran South Africa’s Huawei director product marketing and Charlene Munilall, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group SA jointly unveiled the smartphone to the Eastern and Southern Africa market.

Speaking during the launch, Manilall outlined the goal behind building the new P8.

“The goal of Huawei’s P8 is to become the most friendly in the world for smartphone users. In this gadget, Huawei smoothly combines the best elements of style and durability, giving the user a revolutionary experience and excellence,” said Maniall.

She further said that P8 represents Huawei’s ongoing commitment to give customers access to premium products.

Since its release the P8 has been receiving raving reviews from tech publications. Its classic design, advanced technology and ease of use have won it 17 awards globally.

The P8 will be available in Botswana in the Cell City stores on the third week of July. The retail price is expected to be P7, 000 for the standard 16GB Mystic Champagne and Titanium Grey models.

Since the unveiling of P8, Huawei displayed their commitment to gain a foothold in the premier smartphone market by leveraging their brand with other top famous brands.

They recently announced partnership with Audi Group to jointly explore the future of interconnected car technology at the Consumer Electronics Show Asia (CES Asia) 2015.

Huawei is also a global smartphone partner to London’s Arsenal Football club.

Also at the Johannesburg launch, Micasa’s lead singer J-Something was announced as the new Creative Director of Huawei.

Last month Huawei was named one of BrandZ’s ‘Top 100 Global Brands’ for 2015, ranking 70 on the list.

Marking Huawei’s debut on the BrandZ list, the achievement follows Huawei’s ranking on Interbrand’s ‘Top 100 Best Global Brands’ list last year.
