According to Changwe, when he left for the off-season holiday he wrote to the club management requesting for a salary increment. He also demanded that they beef up some departments in the squad.
“Previously when I came here, I agreed to a lesser pay. The agreement was that my salary will be increased in due course. So when I went home for holidays, I wrote a notice to the team management that I want a salary increase and made some other recommendations on the team,” he explained. Changwe said the club wrote back to inform him that they cannot meet his demands. “Things have been tough; it is not easy to survive with my salary, so I have decided to go back home. I am only waiting to get my June pay and I will be leaving,” Changwe said.
He further said Motlakase have been a good home and he would have loved to stay. He said he had not received any offers from any team, but would like to continue coaching in Botswana.
“The management has been good to me, even the fans have been so welcoming. I enjoyed working with my team and we have not had any quarrels and it is only that we do not agree on some terms.
I would love to continue my coaching career here and if any offer comes, I certainly will stay,” he added.
Motlakase chairperson, Mangisi Segadimo confirmed that the coach has served them with a letter which they received on June 13 asking for 95 percent salary increment. “Yes I can confirm that Mr Changwe wrote to us asking for salary increment, but we feel what he is asking for is too steep and we cannot afford that. We are struggling financially and we are also struggling to secure sponsorship.
We are running this team from our personal coffers so we cannot afford a 95% increment,” he said. Segadimo added that Changwe has also made it clear to the club management that if they cannot meet the amount, he will leave. “Therefore, we are preparing his June salary and we will be paying him as soon as we are done,” said Segadimo. He said assistant coach, Pule Mogotsi takes over until the management meets and decided on the way forward.
