Amos beat the 800m Olympic champion and world record-holder, David Rudisha in Lausanne. With the absence of Rudisha in tonight’s race, he aims for yet another victory. Mohammed Aman from Ethiopia is the only person in the entry list who poses a threat to the Botswana international.

While both Aman and Amos have already faced each other in the past, much is expected from Amos who has been in top form this year. Points will be very important more than personal pride. Amos sits at the top with 10 points while Aman sits in third position with four points.

Aman has recorded a time of 1:43.56 as his season’s best while Amos recorded an even better time of 1:43.27, which is the season’s best. Aman has fallen behind both Amos and Rudisha in the past, but the 21-year old Amos knows better not to underestimate him. Amos will head off to the Herculis meeting with a possibility of eclipsing his previous time. The race promises to be a spectacular with Ethiopia’s champion, Aman facing both Amos and Poland’s European champion Adam Kszczot.

Meanwhile, the Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) vice president, Glody Dube said two of Botswana athletes failed to qualify at the World Youth games in Columbia. Four athletes, Amos, Isaac Makwala, Onkabetse Nkobolo and Kabelo Kgosiemang have already qualified for the World Championships to be held in Beijing, China next month.
