“Women are scared to come out and showcase their talent. I want more women to come out and make their mark in the music industry.

I have come across many talented female musicians who are musically talented but they are scared of performing in public. Its mostly male musicians who are visible,” she said.

Katlego who is a 2011 My African Dream finalist also said that she would try by all means to be active in musical industry and hence inspire more women to venture in.

The songstress divulged that she looks up to female musicians such as Charma Gal and Slizer, who she said have followed their passion and made a mark in the industry.  Numbers also show that the local music industry has a small number of women, with most featuring as back up vocalists. In the technical aspect of music, there are also few women such as as DJ Cupid and DJ Lady K who are involved in music production.

In a recent interview with Showbiz, female rapper Sasa Klaas mentioned that many women leave the music industry because of challenges that they face such as sexual harassment perpetuated by their male counterparts.

Katlego is currently under the mentorship of her older brother rapper Drama Boi who came into the music industry as an underdog until he earned his stripes.

The young artiste is currently working on her debut album. She has already released a single titled Why o etsa so an RnB track which has a mixture of English and Setswana something which is hardly done by local RnB singers who prefer to sing in English. Katlego who is also a dancer said that her performances are energetic because she enjoys dancing.

“My performances will also explain the determination that I have in making women more active in the music industry,” she said. Katlego, who is signed under PLMG, was featured on Drama Boi’s debut album on a track called Enemies.  She has performed at Club Lagos and Calabash.
