The BCP spokesperson Dithapelo Keorapetse confirmed the suspension of key members of the troublesome ‘Ditimamolelo’ factions last night.
“The executive committee of Botswana Congress Party has at its meeting of 30th July 2015 taken a decision to suspend from the
party pending investigation of breach of party discipline. The suspension is with immediate effect pending further investigations into the matter and disciplinary proceedings,” said Keorapetse.
He said the four, who are key members of a group dubbed ‘Ditimamolelo’ (meaning fire fighters) are said to been meeting Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) senior members and have been funded to recruit party members to defect from the party and cause internal instability.
“Party members are cautioned against the ongoing recruitment and other acts of indiscipline spearheaded by the said members and are further advised to desist from meeting or entertaining them in any way during the period of suspension,” read Keorapetse statement.
Keorapetse confirmed that he has written suspension letters to the four and had notified the alleged collaborators.
Majority of ‘Ditimamolelo’ were against cooperation with the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) before the recent Kanye elective congress. Sources in the BCP said the four members held a meeting with BDP bigwigs last week in Lobatse. It is alleged that they made an undertaking to recruit more BCP members. This meeting was allegedly recorded on tape. “They are targeting members of the youth league,” said the source.
In response, Mazwigwila said he learned of his suspension on Facebook. “This shows incompetence in leadership in the BCP. The party spokesperson is joking,” said Mazwigwila. Masole confirmed receipt of the SMS notification from Keorapetse. Efforts to reach Osupile and Manyepetsa were futile at the time of going to press.
