The Tanzanian was in the country as per his promise to tour all African countries that were represented in last year’s BBA show. In a previous interview with Showtime, Sultan revealed he has a foundation going on now, “which basically involves me raising money and donating it to any organisation be it a school, hospital or orphanage around Africa that is in need”.
With this foundation, in his two-day visit to the country, Sultan who walked away $300, 000 richer after winning the Africa’s reality television show, visited local orphanage centre, Tlokweng SOS children’s village. At the orphanage on Friday, Sultan bought gifts for the centre.
“I bought them gifts, food and toys, but that is the ordinary way of doing it, everyone does that. I thought to myself as I travelled to the place that I want to give them the most important gift of all, which is sometimes sidelined; and that is motivation,” he later told Showtime.
Sultan said he wanted the children to get the gift of life, which is wisdom. “I was and still am not in their shoes, but I am trying to make Africa a better place, as Africa also gave me the chance to be a better me.”
On the comedy night, held at the Avani Hotel, previously Gaborone Sun, hosted by Major Moves Comedy, Sultan although the fans favourite for the night as evident by loud cheers as he entered the stage, failed to impress.
The man, who had a brief romance with Botswana representative in season 9 of BBA, Goitseone Goitse Kgaswane, clad in red jacket with matching red shoes, rocked onto stage after an act by local performer, Mawee.
Mawee and other local acts such as Zimbabwe’s Charles, Phenyo and the only female act of the night, Rikonde had set the stage on fire. Although having seen them on stage before, one could easily pick their jokes they had the attendants in stitches.
The main act of the night was however not close to making the perfect pitch. He got on stage and joked about money. The money he won from Africa’s votes.
“I used to be stingy with money, but after winning BBA I thought getting girls was going to be easy, I though I would just rock up and point at any girl, and get them but that is not the case,” he joked.
In another awkward moment, Sultan said “the Botswana way of saying kea go rata is terrifying; its like someone is saying they are going to kill you. How do Batswana take the most sweetest word like Kea go rata and make is so scary and (or) terrifying?”
“I walked into the mall earlier today and some lady rocked up out of nowhere and said, Idris kea go rata, you know how I decoded that? I thought she was saying Idris I am going to kill you,” he said whilst laughing at his own jokes.Though he seemed to miss the beat, the crowd kept on cheering the whole set. His looks kept the women screaming off their lungs. He later took pictures with the attendants. The MCee of night, and another hotshot’s housemate, Nhlanlha Nlhapo was also spotted with housemate lover, Sheillah Molelekwa.
